Getting the most out of our 2013 summer.

Last night, as I was sitting next to B on the couch, fast forwarding through all the judges comments on America's Got Talent and So You Think You Can Dance (we love all these talent finding shows...don't even get us started on the X-Factor and The Voice), I was thinking about how happy I was that I married Lover Boy.

You guys, we have so. much. fun.

We both decided to ditch out on school this summer and just spend our time working and playing.
Pretty soon B will be consumed with all things aspiring dentist-ish and who knows when baby Sanford will pop out. (according to the hubby...3 years).
But we both decided to make this summer one where we do whatever the heck we want...worry free!
As Katy Beasley says...it's the most reasonable time to be unreasonable.
Right kids?!

Our wardies are like, "literally...you guys are never home"
Our next door neighbors are like, "we literally see your headlights flash into our bedroom window after we're half asleep every night"
I'm in Relief Society about to get up to play the piano when I hear someone already playing prelude.
I'm like "who is that lady, and why is she playing the piano for me??"
The Relief Society President is like, "she probably is just assuming that you are literally out of town...again"

You know...just a bunch of signs and subtle hints that B and I are fully enjoying our summer.
and we bask in these comments you guys...we just loooove 'em.

^^our attempt to piggy back while rip sticking...how you say?...epic fail.

So all I'm saying is that after rip sticking, basketball playing, and tennis matching last night...I was fully in love with my husband and 100% happy in the way we are choosing to spend our time together this summer.

Gosh I love him so much.
And tomorrow we're leaving on a spur of the moment California trip.
I'm living the dream kids, living the dream.

The hunt for the perfect tacos.

As of late, B and I are obsessed with tacos.
It all started with me begging him to go to the Tortilla Bar with me.
It was all over my IG feed and looked like all the rage.
In short, we liked it about as much as we like this years season of the Bachelorette.
AKA: we watched one episode and never watched it again.
AKA: one is enough.
AKA: we just don't get it.

But it did jumpstart the hunt for the perfect taco.
Perfect meaning it brings Lover Boy right back to New York City as a young lad missionary boy eating tacos from street vendors for daaaays.

We tried way too many tacos in way too short of a time span, but we were determined.
and while all of them were yummers, none of them satisfied my man.
Until we hit up Davanza's in Park City during a vacay, that is.
We have always loved this place, it has the chillest vibe! But we loved it for it's pizza and just always ordered that.
But on a whim, I ordered one taco with my pizza.
B tried it, ordered 3 more right away, and announced the finding of the perfect taco.

Botta bing botta boom!
We did it.
And we've been craving them ever since.
So I tried to re-create them the other night.

They were pretty darn good, if I say so myself.
But you know how I hate cooking.
And the mere fact that I had to cook the perfect tacos myself literally took some of the yumminess out of them.
I'm not kidding.
But on the reals, after eating tacos every other night for dinner, it sure feels good to have found Davanza's.

Man I love the man who hired the man to cook the tacos at that place.
You done good man, you done good.
Next stop?
NYC taco vendor in the fleeeesh.

Shoe Day!

Shoe Day: A day that happens once a year during the Nordstrom Sale where my mom takes the girls on a shopping day and treats them to one pair of shoes of their choosing.

Shoe Day is one of my favorite days.
And clearly my mom's the shiz.

^^^I'm overly in love with my new boots. Been wearing them everyday!

Thanks momma...it was the funniest day with my favorite ladies and my feet have never looked more rad.

In other random and not important news...

Blake and I go on bike rides all the time. If we're bored at 11:30 at night, we bike. Actually, if we're bored ever, we bike. But this Saturday, I got a flat tire. And you need a special pump to put air in my tire for some reason. And we don't have that special pump. So I'm royally bummed out about this. I'm sure we'll figure out how to get air in it eventually...I'm just nervous about what will happen if B and I get bored before we get it fixed!!!! What will we doooo?!

Which leads me to my pointless point number 2. We'll probably play tennis, actually. It's our latest craze. We basically can't stop, and we won't stop (Miley, anyone?)
But I'm bad and need a personal coach for my serving, forehand, backhand, score keeping, and ball fetching skills.
Youtube tutorials have been an epic fail.
Any takers?

It's time for you to float the Provo River, kids.

^^no one was actually wearing their nudies in the making of these pics.

Anyone who lives in the Provo area neeeeeeds to go up the canyon and float down the Provo river.
Stat.
It's me and B's new favorite thing.
One time during our little float, B and I got a little seperated and I had no idea where he went.
5 minutes later, I see him walking along the bank of the river with a huge stick in his hand and his popped tire around his neck.
I was laughing soooo hard, he looked so funny...like a lost wilderness boy, if you will.
Apparently his stick popped his tube when he was using it as a paddle.
He said the stick hit his tube, popped it so fast, and dumped him in the water.
Too bad I wasn't there to witness it first hand...kid would never live it down.

So naturally, we had to share a tube for the rest of the way and it was the BEST thing!
Neither of us wanted to get wet because the water was freaking freezing,
but we could NOT find a position that didn't flip the tube over.
"Rik, let go of me! Riki...you need to let go. LET GO LET GO! We're gonna tip! RIK!!! LET GOOO!!"
I didn't let go.
If I was going down, we both were. And we both did.
Seriously though, we scraped ourselves up pretty bad because the current kept pushing us along while we tried to position ourselves on the dang tube! The rocks at the bottom? No bueno.
Finally we found the perfect position and Blake wouldn't let me move a single muscle the rest of the way so we wouldn't tip over.
We laughed so hard because our necks hurt so bad from holding our heads up, and I literally had to hold my legs up in the air cuz when they touched the water, we would start tipping.
I'm sure we looked ridiuclous on that thing, but it was so funny.
And don't get me started on when we would hit big waves or head toward trees...the sheer panick of something throwing off our perfectly balanced tube would send us into crazy laughs and you should see Blake's panicked face. It's priceless.
We laughed hard the whole and deemed our first river ride a great one.

So, what I'm saying is...go float the river.
Grab yourself a $10 tube at Big O Tires. A life jacket (it's required). Shoes (you'll die without them, I promise). And an oar of some type (not a stick, like my smart hubby did...you'll need something to steer!)
And just do it. Okay?!
In fact, B and I are planning to go again after work today.
Who's with meh?!

The heat stroker (take 2).

Last year, I headed down to St. George with Blakey boo for the Heat Stroker as just his girly friend.
He said it was my test to see if I could be his wifey since it's kinda of a brutal weekend...
seeing as you have to stay up all night watching softball games.

Last year, I slept through 2 games.
Obviously it was enough to pass B's test seeing as we're now sleeping in the same bed as a married couple as of late.
So this year, I went as his wife and it was a ba-last, I tell you.
We went with our friends Josh + Katy and Matt +Carly amd just had a #greattimegreatexperience.
and I'm happy to report that I only slept through 1.5 games this year...I'm a party animal I tell you.
and making progress with each year!
Seriously though, their games went from 10 pm to 8am the next morning.
So crazy.

Left: like one or two-ish in the a.m.//Right: at six...watching the sun rise.

And me...dead as a door nail.
I don't even know how these boys can stay awake and play softball all through the night.
Blows my noggin'
So basically we're all pretty pooped by the end of this and spend the rest of our days sleeping in till 4 pm, swimming, shopping, eating at way weird times, and waiting for the next softball games to start.

B was just not a happy camper when they finally lost out of the tournament.
That kid could play ball all day erryday. I swear it.
I don't mind though.
He's sexy out there on the field, for sure.
But they did gooooood.
Go team.
And after watching the tournament semi-finals with B, part of me is happy they lost.
Those guys are insanely good...like scary good.
like, used-to-be-a-professional-baseball-player, good.
like, I-don't-really-have-a-life-outside-of-softball-tournaments, good.
like, you-better-have-the-reflexes-of-Mr. Miyagi-or-you'll-die-from-a-100mph-softball-to-your-face, good.
Ya, glad that's not my man.

Anaaaand before heading home, we stopped by the narrows (just the little St. George one).

See that tiny tiiiiny slit up above in that pic?
Ya! that's what you have to go through!
Literally can't even turn your head at some parts.
Let me tell ya...does wonders for your self esteem when you finally squeeze yourself through to the end.
Oh! and can't forget Father Bishop (B's dad) yelling, "GOTTA PEE!" from the top of the narrows, and then feeling a bunch of liquid land on your head.
Hahahaha so funny.
of course it was just water kids!

It was super windy up top.
And look at B's hair!
It's getting so long and crazy and I love it.

All the boys got on this rock and started showing off their upper body strength.
Where did B's head go, you ask?
I'm not sure actually.
But check this out.

I'm all, "I wanna try!"
And failed miserably.
Baby biceps, what!?
So then I'm all "Blake. Imma donkey kick my legs out, so be ready to snap a pic"
Not really thinking that it'd turn out, at all.
But of course B snaps a pic while my body is in a plank for less than half a second.on.the.first.try.
(which is a huge deal, as all pictures require me saying, "will you take just one more?!" right?)
and it didn't even turn out blurry and makes me look sooo buff, right?!
Go B.
And go Iphone.
You never seem to disappoint.

And last thing!
In May, when B and I were in St. George with my family, we decided to write ourselves a note and hid/bury it at the softball fields so we could find it again when we came back for the heat stroker.
Want some bueno news?! We found it!!

The note:

To: Blake + Riki,
Have fun this weekend!
We were here just a few weeks before you.
Tell Josh and Katy hi for us.
Blake, make sure you provide Riki with the necessary stuff to keep her awake during your games so you can play well.
Love you two!!!

-Blake + Riki from the past.
10 May 2013.

Composed by Blake on a napkin from dinner that night.

Hope your weekend was a rad as mine was!
Hahaha "love you two!!"
Best part.

Some good news!

B and I have been married for half a year!
Holla holla.
So last night, I found a sub to teach my Wednesday night dance classes and spent the night with my boy instead.
I love date nights with the hubs!

And more good news?
Today we're headed down to St. George for the weekend!
Blake is playing softball all weekend in the "heat stroker".
It's this tournament where you play through the nights and spend your days catching up on sleep.
It's one of our favorite summer vacays...so we're pretty stoked on life right now.

And the best good news of the day?

A funk, a birthday, and some house decor.

You guys.
I'm finding myself in a weird funk.
Like...bla bla bla bla blog, whaaaa?
Aint nobody got time for that.
Some person jacked my motivation and inspiration and threw it off a cliff.
And I'm buuuuuugged about it.
Cuz now I'm feeling obligated to write, instead of wanting to write.
Oh bless, someone help.
I know, I know...I should just take a break, breathe in some fresh air, find my dead motivation and inspiration at the bottom of the cliff and try to revive it with some kind of mouth-to-mouth procedure, but I don't want to.
Because I know how I am.
Once I took a break from writing in my journal and after 12 months, I now open my journal to write in it about as much as I go into my kitchen to cook.
Like, never.
I don't want this blog to die a slow and lonely death like how my journal did!
So bear with me as posts are sparatic, probably boring, and honestly...a little forced.
We'll work through this little funk-da-funk together.

But in other great and non-boring news...
Today is May Lady's birthday!
I can't believe she's 2.
She's the cutest niece on planet earth.
I sure do love that Maylie Girl.

And also, I channeled my inner crafter last night and whipped out these sharpie prints.

Part of me hates that I didn't pre-meditate my designs.
And the lack of symmetry might kill me.
But another part of me loves them all imperfect-like.
It makes them totally rad.
So, I can't decide!

Welp! See ya later!

Just to clear the air.

Today B and I met up for lunch with my parents at the Orem mall.
And afterwards we walked around for a little bit.
And out of the blue, Lover boy says, "Rik, sometimes in your blog...you make me sound like........like a fairy..."
Me...lol-ing "like a FAIRY!?"
Him..."Ya. A fairy."
And then we hear my mom in the background go "bling bling!" (Like a fairy noise I guess?)
"B...what do fairies even sound like?!"
(Cue my mother's "bling bling!" once again)
Who knows what they sound like, but supposedly I make B sound like one.
Perhaps he was meaning I make him sound soft? Girly? Sensitive? Glittery and magical, maybe?

Who knows.
But first things first...
I'm sorry babes! I never meant to make you sound like a fairy!!!

And just to clear the air...Blake is super manly and all things that a fairy isn't and all things that Chuck Norris is. Okay??

GIVEAWAY: FREE BLOG DESIGN!!!!

Did you notice my new blog face lift?!
Yes, I'm obsessed.
When I found Kaylie Marie's blog design site, I couldn't refuse the price OR quality.
(even though B and I spent hours on my last blog facelift only like a month ago)
(and even though whenever I would ask B his opinion on my new design ideas he would always say "oh ya! that's awesome! But not as awesome as mine was!"...gosh I love him)
BUT I just couldn't refuse.
Plus, I had a new design forming in my brain for a while, and I found a girl that could do it for me without the blood, sweat, and tears that occurred when rookie B and I did my last design. AND without emptying my wallet.
And you know what?
Kaylie was the most patient person on planet earth.
I can't decide if me knowing what I wanted was a good thing or a bad thing.
Good...I could tell her what I wanted.
Bad...She had to change things ONE MILLION times until it was exactly how I pictured it in my brain.
She was a gem I tell you.

Anyway, lets get to the REALLY good stuff here.

All things American.

For the 4th, we decided to do all things American...minus the yum tacos we ate on the parade route. Seriously, I've never seen my boy happier, so the tacos were a must. But we rode bikes, hung out on the parade route, Denny's at 3 am, drank coke, watched the parade, ate KFC, played frisbee, rode motorcycles, ordered icecream from a creepy icecream truck, took naps, and ended the night with Carly Rae and ma gurl Kelly.

^^ out of the millions of seats at the stadium of fire, I happened to sit right by Kali, one of my besties! What are the odds?! So rad, right?

Happy 4th peeps! Hope you enjoyed the sleep deprivation, overload of snacks, and all DYI American flag projects as much as I did!
